Helpful Information for Race Day
Volunteers should report to their check-in location at the
time indicated by their volunteer captain via e-mail.
Athlete Check-In will be located at the end of Union Ave., at the
north end of Quarry Beach Park. Body marking and timing chips
will be distributed at that point.
(For an aerial photo of the Quarry Beach Park layout, see
this page.)
The start for both the duathlon and triathlon is located at Quarry
Beach Park, as is the transition area. The finish line for the run
course is at Batavia City Hall. You can look at
this map (PDF file)
for a better idea of the geographic proximity of those sites. More
details about the course for each leg of the race may be found on the
Race Format page. Athletes should
bring their bikes on the morning of the race. There is
no option for placing your bike into
transition on Saturday.
Check-in will open at 4:30 AM, and Du/Tri transition will open at 4:45
AM. You may not enter the transition area until after you
check-in. Transition will be open in general until 6:00 AM.
Please allow ample time for both check-in and setup in the transition
area. Transition will close promptly at 6:00 AM. The transition area
will be secured until 11:00 AM.
The pre-race instructions will be given at 6:10 AM. The
National Anthem will be performed at 6:25 AM, and then competitors
should begin to assemble so that the race starts at 6:30 AM.
Splash and Dash: If you didn't pick up Splash and Dash packets prior to race day,
you may pick them up at the Du/Tri check-in (4:30 AM) or at 8:00 AM. The transition
area for Splash and Dash will open at 8:00 AM.
Parking
There are three parking lots north of Quarry Beach Park that you may
use, but they are pretty small and they will fill up fast! Otherwise,
you may park on the residential side streets (unless otherwise posted)
west of Route 31 (Batavia Ave.) and south of Main St. There will be no
parking at the Quarry Beach Park itself.
Lot #1 - River West Fitness (aerial
picture)
You may park in the lot behind River West Fitness, east of Water St.
between First St. and Main St.
Lot #2 - Shumway Ave. (aerial
picture)
You may park in the striped parking spaces on the east side of Shumway
Ave. south of First St. Park only in the striped spaces, as the running
event will be using Shumway Ave. and must not be obstructed by cars.
Lot #3 - Wilson St. Shopping Center (aerial
picture)
You may park in the east portion of the lot as shown in the picture. The
shopping center contains restaurants that open for breakfast, so you may
NOT park near Daddio's Diner, Walgreens, or Panera Bread.
Helpful Reminders
- Bring warm clothes to wear in the morning while you wait to
start. The weather can be pretty chilly at 5:00 AM in June.
- Bring your bike helmet; no riders will be allowed on the course
without one.
- Body Marking and Timing Chips will be available outside the
transition area, off of Union Avenue, north of the quarry. You must
have your body marked before you enter the transition area.
- Glass containers are not allowed in the transition area for
safety reasons.
- You may not wear headphones or earbuds during the race. They are
prohibited by USAT rules, as they impair your ability to hear other
competitors around you.
- No spectators will be allowed in the pool area during the swim.
You can watch from outside the pool area. This is for the safety of
our athletes.
- The swim start will take place in numerical order. The interval
between racers will be 5 seconds. It is the racer’s responsibility
to be at the swim start on time. Please be ready to go in the
waiting area at 6:00 AM sharp to line up in order.
- Make sure you have your race number on the front of your body or
clothing when you finish the run.
- When starting out on the bike course, athletes must NOT mount
their bikes until they cross the mount line. There will be plenty of
volunteers in transition indicating where this is. Athletes must
also dismount at this line and run their bikes into the transition
area for safety purposes.
- Make sure to stay to the right side of the road on the bike
course unless you are passing. Once you have passed (on the LEFT),
move back to the right side of the road. Be LOUD on the bike course;
let a rider know you will pass by saying, “On your left!” Be safe!
The course will be partially closed to traffic, but the police may
have to let some vehicles through so be aware of what is going on
around you. Also, many portions of the bike course will have riders
traveling in both directions.
- You will not be able to remove your bikes from transition area
until ALL bikers have left transition. Please plan accordingly. The
transition area will be secured until 11:30 AM.
- Don't forget the post-race party where there will be food,
beverages, race awards and live music!
- Please vote for the best water stop. The water stops are managed
by non-profit organizations and the top water stop receives $250.
Your ticket to vote is on the bottom of your bib number.
- There are dozens of raffle prizes. Winners are randomly drawn
and must be present to win. The raffle will be integrated into the awards ceremony.
- The awards ceremony will start when the race is completed,
approximately at 9:45 AM. Awards will be given
to overall winners and top three finishers in each age group. Relay
teams also receive awards. Any age group award winners who are not
present at the awards ceremony will forfeit their award.
Have a great race, but most importantly, be safe and HAVE FUN!
